For a recovering alcoholic being around their friends that are drinking can be a hugely difficult thing that can set off triggers pushing them back into drinking again. It is painful to eliminate some people from our lives simply because they drink but it is one step that you can take to avoid a relapse.

Friendships are hard enough without adding alcohol into the mix. One step, that many recovering alcoholics find to be the most difficult, albeit necessary, is letting go of friends that have enabled their drinking habit in the past.
